TRCA Invasive Species Removal Event

It’s time to give back. For those of you that ride the trails, and even those of you that don’t, please take this opportunity to show that we too are good stewards of the forests and lands. Equestrians are always noticeably absent from and/or outnumbered at volunteer events. Let’s change that.

The TRCA is holding an Invasive Species Removal Event, targeting the buckthorn growing along the road allowance into Walker Woods. It will be held on Sunday September 21, 2025, at 2990 Concession 7 (the Towers Parking Lot at Concession 7 and Houston Road) from 10am until noon. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants, equipment will be supplied. Two hours, that’s all that’s required.

The photocontest is Back for 2025

The UHA will once again be holding a photo contest and we want pictures of your horses! Pictures selected will appear in the 2026 UHA Members Calendar. The pictures don’t need to be from this year, they can be from any year, as long as you (a current member of the UHA), took them.

Please note they should be in ‘landscape’ orientation (as opposed to ‘portrait’), in JPeg format and of the largest file size possible.

The deadline to have your submissions in by is Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Update to management plan for uxbridge urban park:

A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who provided their input on the preliminary draft of the Management Plan for the new Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park. The Management Plan is expected to be introduced at some point this spring. We will keep you posted as information becomes available.

The preliminary draft of the management plan for the new Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park has been released on the Environmental Registry of Ontario under number 019-9209.

All equestrians are encouraged to read this plan, as the policies within it will govern the use of this new park for the next twenty years. Your input is important.

If you don’t want to read this 51-page document in its entirety, the pages pertaining to which of the trails equestrian use is allowed on, and the conditions that apply (hint: it involves our horses wearing manure bags), can be found on pages 30 to 32. Please note that the “lots” mentioned translate to Trails B, C and E.

You have until January 26, 2025 to provide input. This will be the last opportunity for comment on the management direction for the Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park.

With this is mind, even if you don’t ride the trails, now would be a good time to support the equestrians who do by submitting feedback. Please show respect for Ontario Parks as well as other user groups in your comments, we are all just trying to be good stewards of the lands and enjoy the trails.

Why Join the UHA?

Since the mid 1980’s the Uxbridge Horsemen’s Association has been the voice for equestrians in Uxbridge, Durham and the surrounding area. Our philanthropic activities focus on causes that are important to horses and their people as well as helping out and supporting the needs of our community. Most importantly we provide a forum for you as a horse owner, perhaps a farm owner, boarding facility or coach, to use as a sounding board should you ever need strength in numbers. We welcome all disciplines and we do hold discipline specific events as well as general equine focused events, but more, we stand united in our passion for horses.
